Time seems to have slowed down now, making space for us to look back in order to look forward. Rebirth is scheduled for 2018 and the only way we can make it easily is to count our gifts, look at how far we’ve come, and view our flaws and fears through an objective lens. It’s going to be so much easier than any of us realize…
Mind: King of Cups
The King of Cups is a symbol of mind over matter, and there’s a lot of matter to wrap our minds around now. Before we can look ahead and proceed, we’re asked to draw from the past and repair the cracks in our foundation with a healthy dose of ruthlessness—prioritizing what’s really fair over how others may see it. The Mercury-retrograde-Jupiter-in-Scorpio combination really makes all of this hard to avoid, so take advantage of the stage that this climate has set for soul-searching. We’ve felt it all before, those old emotions that keep stirring up in new situations. When those emotions were new and unfamiliar, we panicked and buried them, second-guessing ourselves. But now, they aren’t so new. We’ve been given more information, more tools to handle things once and for all, with poise and grace. The King of Cups reminds us that this isn’t our first rodeo. We’ve done some growing up, and we can take a mature and diplomatic approach to what previously overwhelmed us. How will you use your wisdom from this growth spurt to set an example to others?
Body: Four of Swords
The Four of Swords heralds a time of rest and rejuvenation. With the holidays approaching, there may not be as much room for this in the weeks ahead. Now is the perfect time to get those extra hours of sleep you needed or to burn off some steam at the gym whenever possible. We know that when we choose not to do this, it will catch up with us eventually. We get sick, we have misplaced outbursts, or we wind up sleeping through that New Year’s Eve party we’d been looking forward to. It’s time to reel it in. And if you find some FOMO creeping up, your challenge is to swap it out for gratitude and patience. Be thankful that you get to have this time for yourself and patient with your body while you nurture it. Who knows what can pop up later this month to rip you off of the couch and demand your full attention and energy? Nothing is certain except the time you have right now to practice some self-care, so ride it out and embrace it. What does your body need now to feel energized and present for the weeks ahead?
Spirit: Six of Wands
The Six of Wands is a good partner to the King of Cups during this period of review as we take a good look at ourselves. As we identify our room for growth, and see where we may have gone wrong, we also need to look at where we’ve gone right. The Six of Wands is a loud, fiery triumph of the soul that speaks of your accomplishments. Your spirit has given you gifts through your experiences—whether it’s the courage to be honest with yourself or confidence you didn’t have five years ago. These are gifts that you and only you have earned. Your spirit becomes unsound when you forget or underestimate these gifts you’ve been given. Imagine if you spent hours wrapping a room full of presents, and the recipient tossed them into a storage unit or thanked someone who did none of the legwork? Your spirit knows that each gift supports the next, and without being opened and celebrated, they can’t be used for their intended purpose. Which gifts and victories can you use to overcome your current challenges?
Guidance: Fire Mother
The Fire Mother represents the spirit of the Phoenix, curled around her eggs after continuous rebirth from flames. She is “a symbol to us that from death will always come life. The Fire Mother has the wisdom knowing nothing truly belongs to her…she loves and cares for her eggs as if there is no tomorrow.” Instead of living in a state of avoiding pain, challenges or hurdles on our path ahead, remember that we have an alternative choice. Our other choice is to channel all of that energy into loving and nurturing our own “eggs” we hold dear: family, existing relationships in our lives, projects and causes. The outcome of situations will happen how they’re supposed to– but it’s a hell of a lot easier to deal with what comes when everything is incubated with love, and harder to regret this way. How will you choose love and acceptance over fear and control now?
