To learn Tarot is to engage in one of the oldest and most respected forms of divination there is. For the uninitiated, understanding how to read the cards might seem daunting, but Labyrinthos Academy wants to change that with their app-based Tarot school program. A self professed “school of monsters, spirits and shenanigans makers,” Labyrinthos offers both supplies and instruction for a modern Tarot exploration.
So far, Labyrinthos has created two decks—the sleek, minimalist navy and metallic Golden Thread, meant for wellness and looking within, and the dreamy, pastel Luminous Spirit deck, designed to radiate light into the world. Each deck has an app designed to teach users how to read it, with another more introductory app that cultivates guided digital readings with the deck of your choice, provides Tarot history, and an keeps an online progress log that both saves and analyzes past readings. Flashcard style study aids and instructors in the form of friendly “monsters” (“with over eight millenia of collective human guidance experience!), making the experience adorably rewarding.
Labyrinthos points out that “our lives are a constant interchange between our inner and outer worlds. As humans, we are programmed to perceive ourselves reflected in everything….Tarot is a language whose vocabulary is our universal experiences as humans, and if you learn to interpret it, it becomes a great tool that helps you develop your own narrative. What you read and interpret is a reflection of your own inner world.” With lushly illustrated decks, cheeky graphics, and genuinely practical knowledge, it’s enrolling in Labyrinthos is a pretty good way of spending time on your phone.
